RÉSUMÉ DES ACTIVITÉS DE RECHERCHE
Le laboratoire travaille à disséquer le programme développemental du noyau paraventriculaire (PVN), un petit groupe de neurones localisés dans l’hypothalamus. En vertu de sa taille et de sa composition cellulaire bien caractérisée, le PVN représente un modèle intéressant pour étudier les mécanismes fondamentaux qui régissent la différenciation des neurones et la production de la diversité cellulaire du cerveau. Les neurones du PVN participent au contrôle d’un grand nombre de phénomènes physiologiques, incluant l’appétit, la soif et la réponse au stress. Nous avons postulé que l’étude du développement du PVN permettra aussi de mieux comprendre les maladies qui affectent ces processus physiologiques.
Par ailleurs, le laboratoire à initié en avril 2006 un important projet de recherche visant à identifier les gènes responsables du retard mental. Dans le cadre de ce projet d’une durée de cinq ans, 300 gènes jouant un rôle au niveau de la synapse seront étudiés chez 285 sujets souffrant de retard mental non syndromique. Les variations les plus intéressantes feront l’objet d’une étude biologique fonctionnelle plus poussée.
