Roger Butterworth, Ph.D.

Roger Butterworth est professeur titulaire à la Faculté de médecine de l’Université de Montréal. Il dirige l’Unité de recherche en sciences neurologiques située à l’Hôpital St-Luc du CHUM.

RÉSUMÉ DES ACTIVITÉS DE RECHERCHE

Détenteur d’un doctorat de l’Université de Londre, le Dr Butterworth s’intéresse aux aspects génétiques des encéphalopathies métaboliques (syndrome de Wernicke-Korsakoff, encéphalopathie hépatique, encéphalopathie urémique) et aux interactions alcool-vitamine B1 dans le système nerveux central. Son laboratoire travaille à l’évaluation des systèmes monoaminergique et glutamatergique dans l'encéphalopathie hépatique et aux acides aminés neurotransmetters (GABA, glycine, glutamate, taurine). Le Dr Butterworth a été Président de l’International Society of Neurochemistry de 2005 à 2007 et est présentement Président de l’International Society for Hepatic Encephalopathy and Nitrogen Metabolis.
